Anti-Inflammatory: First new album from Dr Strangely Strange for 28 years….
Dr Strangely Strange, formed in Dublin in 1968 and still going strong, are releasing their first studio LP for a over a quarter of a century (the last one was 1997’s Alternative Medicine on Ace Records). Following renewed interest generated by his Radio Sessions archive album release (see below), Think Like A Key’s Roger Houdaille offered the band a licensing deal for an album of new songs, and in early 2024 they started sessions in a Clonakilty studio. Anti-Inflammatory is the result.
The new album, adding  ‘new boy’  Joe Thoma (fiddle and mandolin since 1980!) features all three original Strangelies, now in their (very) early eighties. Produced by Brian Casey at Wavefield Studios, it has tracks by all 4 members. Unsurprisingly, one album theme is mortality, in both Goulding’s elegiac song Like Water like Wind, and Booth’s Baby Bunting, a dalliance with ‘crossing to the other side’ set to a Bo Diddley beat. Joe Thoma contributes Sula, a beautiful fiddle-based instrumental ,and Ivan’s Drive ‘Em Down starts off with cattle-herding  memories but quickly becomes a paean to his wife MaryMac...
Anti-Inflammatory will delight both old Strangelies fans and new listeners! Out later in 2025, more details are here: www.thinklikeakey.com/format/1637114-anti-inflammatory

Out now is a compilation of Dr Strange Radio Sessions, see cover below. It's on Think Like A Key Records. In their heyday, the band recorded only two BBC radio sessions, a Top Gear slot and an In Concert, both with John Peel. Frustratingly, the BBC’s tapes were wiped, but after extensive research with European collectors, TLAK has been able to locate off-air recordings of both sessions, which have been painstakingly restored. Added to these are brief radio sessions for Dutch and Danish radio sourced from the original recordings, as well as a Dublin rehearsal take of Sign On My Mind featuring Gary Moore, a friend of the band and guest on Heavy Petting.
The accompanying 24-page illustrated booklet has been compiled by Strangelies biographer Adrian Whittaker.

At the bottom of this page are some pix from the book launches in Dalston and Dublin.
